pure speculation, and probably wrong.

although there will be a next version,its more likely to have upgraded firmware and features,and not size.
They can't make it smaller or typing becomes impossible..

If i have to speculate, i would say the next one will have more memory, a better battery, 3G support and Video recording and mms support (!)

Forget about open source applications. Apple won't allow it cause then the OS will become like windows mobile (unstable). They don't want that.

That said,i can't wait to buy mine when the EU version comes out
