Transparent OLEDs have been showcased at trade shows for years, but this is the first practical application of the technology in a public setting. LG installed their see-through displays on subway trains in China, or to be more specific, the Beijing (Line 6) and Shenzhen (Line 10). Some of the windows have been replaced with 55-inch transparent OLED displays that show real-time information about speed, schedules, locations, transfers, associated flights, local weather, news, and more. LG is currently just testing to see how people react to the displays and plan on further expanding the technology to more subways as well as self-driving cars, airplanes, as well as smart homes in the near future.
