Harvard University Avi Loeb Extraterrestrial Life
Harvard professor Avi Loeb believes that we were visited by an extraterrestrial object in 2017. Some may already be familiar with the interstellar object–named “Oumuamua,” which was first observed through the Pan-STARRS telescope at Hawaii’s Haleakala Observatory three years ago. Loeb states there are two things that stand out about Oumuamua, its unnatural cigar-like dimensions (5-10 times longer than it was wide) and the movement, which excessively pushes away from the sun.

Why is the second observation out of the ordinary? Well, the sun’s gravitational force would normally cause a natural object to move faster as it approaches, and eventually push back, thus slowing the movement as it travels away. This did not happen with Oumuamua, which accelerated slightly, but to a highly statistically significant extent as it continued to move further away.

If we are not alone, are we the smartest kids on the block? If there was a species that eliminated itself through war or changing the climate, we can get our act together and behave better. Instead, we are wasting a lot of resources on Earth fighting each other and other negative things that are a big waste,” said Loeb.
