Say goodbye to credit card PIN numbers, and hello to Samsung’s new Biometric Card IC. This card can store up to three digital templates of fingers during enrollment and added by the card issuer at home or a supervised in-person location. To make a payment, the card can be tapped or inserted at a standard EMV point-of-sale terminal with the finger placed on its built-in sensor.
The card compares the canned image to the fingerprint templates stored on it during the point of sale. All three biometric templates are encrypted and protected from unauthorized access. Most importantly, the biometric templates never leave the card since they are not stored by the issuer nor the scanned image.
