Sony Ericsson has unveiled XPERIA X2 smartphone, a successor to its Xperia X1 launched last year. It will be powered by Windows Mobile 6.5, providing access to Microsoft’s app store and the Windows Marketplace for Mobile.

According to Sony Ericsson, the new smartphone comes with 3.2-inch touch screen, 8.1 megapixel camera and a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It includes a new SlideView feature, which provides quick access to frequently used phone activities. Providing interaction with contacts, messages, media and more, SlideView notifies the user of any missed calls, e-mails and text messages.

The new smartphone comes with 14 preloaded panels and 16 others are available for download. It will give users’ one-click access to Skype, Google, Mytopia, and other business applications. The XPERIA X2 smartphone comes with Microsoft Office mobile and Exchange ActiveSync. It also allows users to show their presentations on the big screen with the TV out cable.

Sumit Malhotra, marketing business manager of Sony Ericsson, said: “In the fast moving world we live in, the need to stay connected has never been so important. We constantly rely on our mobile phones as an extension to the office and the XPERIA X2 debuting with Windows Mobile 6.5, allows users to work quickly and efficiently while on the move.”

The new XPERIA X2 is expected to be available in selected markets from early Q4 2009.
