How to import Canon VIXIA GX10 4K MP4 to FCP X?

For whatever reason if you have problems importing Canon VIXIA GX10 4K UHD Camcorder.mp4 files into Final Cut Pro X for further editing, we wouldsuggest making new Apple ProRes QuickTime media that is FCP X friendlybefore you start post production.

"Hey folks, I've had trouble with Canon VIXIA GX10 4Kvideo in FCP X. FCP X hung several times trying to import all that mediaat once (leaving in location, not copying to the stupid library secretarchive). I've broken it down into chunks to import, and some foldersare fine, but the MTS clips don't look promising (loooong progress barsof Processing Files for Import that don't seem to progress). It seems tome that FCP X just can't handle any volume of 4K files. Can anyonethink of any alternative workflows, or anything I'm missing before Itoss it in trash? Actually, this is my first FCP X project. I wouldreally appreciate any help."

You are probably trying to edit .mts files extracted from the.mp4 wrapper. The performance issues you describe are a known issue.MP4 files should never be removed from the MPEG-4/H.264 wrapper, and if you do,FCP X does not handle it well. The easiest and best solution isre-encode the Canon VIXIA GX10 4K UHD Camcorder MP4 files to ProRes codec before import using Acrok Video Converter Ultimate for Mac.
